Here you find the list of 54 Citadel Men who died during WWI and WWII and who now rest in peace or are remembered on Tablets of the Missing at 15 American cemeteries in Europe and North Africa and two Commonwealth cemeteries. The list shows the Rank, Full Name (first, middle, last), Class Year, and Cemetery. Names in blue have an In Memoriam page. We are in the process of creating In Memoriam pages for all and are updating pages as new information becomes available. Go to page.
These photographs were originally 5 x 7 “cabinet style” photographs provided to The Citadel by their families at the personal request of Gen. P. Summerall, the college’s president at that time. The photographs were hung in the reading room of the cadet library located in Bond Hall and displayed as a “Gallery of Photographs of The Citadel’s Glorious Patriot Dead of World War II”. They are now in the memorial books on display in The Citadel Museum. (Source: Steve Smith ’84) Visit the Gallery of Photographs.
To aid you, should you be planning a visit to Europe or North Africa, we have collected the In Memoriam pages of the Citadel Men resting in peace or remembered at each cemetery and placed these into documents that can be downloaded. Go to page.
