Bishopville, Sept. 20 – (Special) –
Official confirmation from the War department in Washington has been received by
Mr. and Mrs. Jule Hancock of the death of their son, SSgt. Jule Hancock, Jr., in the
line of duty over Yugoslavia.
Sergeant Hancock was a turret gunner on a B-24 Liberator and had been with Eighth
Air force only a few months in the European theater. His crew was on a combat
mission October 14 when attacked by anti-aircraft and shot down. Several members
of the crew survived and escaped. He was the only son of his parents.
